the petite park

The petite park is one of the increasing number of indoor playgrounds in malls. One of the unique things about this one is that it’s open to the mall so dad can sit looking in and drink a coffee as the kids are playing (if they are old enough to run around on their own). This is not the biggest play area so the 2hr entry at weekends (unlimited during the week) isn’t a big worry.

So what’s there to do?

My kids start in the pretend play area, doing dress-up and playing in the fire station. Having tea parties in the kitchen and fruit stall. Building stuff with the wooden blocks and zoom trains round the train track. All the toys are eco-friendly and with it all being a kids hight my one year old had great fun cruising around the furniture finding her favorite toy (well for 5 mins until the next toy caught her attention).

The larger part of the area is for “active play” this is where you tire out the kids, with slides, ball pit, swing, carrousel, funny boat rocker. My old one particularly likes the luge where she gets to sit on a little carriage and “zoom” down the track into a pillow. The younger one has great fun in the balloon cages where there are large balloons being blown around by the fans.

So there is no protected area for the little ones?

The petite park is a bit different in that it’s designed for children under 7 years old (or less than 130cm in height) so there aren’t bigger kids running around and accidentally knocking over the little ones. It is a bit out of the way but the mall it’s in also has an small outside water play area and there are plenty of food options with several restaurants and 2 food courts.

Pro tip

At weekends it’s $18 for 2hrs but if you get the petite value pass (6 visits for $84) then it’s unlimited time and you can go out to lunch then come back and play more. Also as it’s not linked to a name if you have 2 kids then you can use the same card for both of them. Finally don’t forget your socks.
