Junior Rugby World Championship 2015 Semi-Final Predictions

We are into the serious part of the tournament and the last round with a couple of upsets has really set the tournament alight. Here are my semi-final predictions.

First here is a link to my review of the third round.

How did your predictions in the last round go?

4 from 6, I totally misjudged pool A.

Argentina U20 v Italy U20

Both these sides have lost all their games so far. Italy has started games well but then not been able to keep up with other teams. Argentina for the first two games were close until the end and could easily have taken a scalp. So I’m backing Argentina to bounce back from their large defeat to Scotland.

Argentina U20 by 5

Australia U20 v Scotland U20

Australia were the side to miss out on the top group, after two bonus point wins they only missed out on the top group by points difference. So even though Scotland got a good win to finish the group stages I think Australia will be too strong.

Australia U20 by 10

New Zealand U20 v France U20

New Zealand have a couple of big wins under the belt, but when they did rest players against Argentina they were stretched. France have had a couple of tough games already so will be “battle hardened.” Also do the junior side have the same mental block as the seniors about France? I’m still backing the Kiwis to take it.

New Zealand U20 by 5

Samoa U20 v Japan U20

Japan have lost all their games and given up at least 40 points in each. Samoa have picked up one win against the hosts after testing games against South Africa and Australia. When these sides met in the Oceania championship earlier in the year Samoa won by 3 points but I think the gap will be larger this time.

Samoa U20 by 15

Ireland U20 v Wales U20

Ireland won a couple of tight matches before coming up against New Zealand. Wales have already lost to two 6 nations opposition. When they did meet earlier in the year Wales won at home. This time with Ireland carrying in better form I think they will get revenge but only by a tight margin,

Ireland U20 by 3

South Africa U20 v England U20

South Africa have three try bonus point wins and they have built through the tournament. England had gone well until they came up against France even if they had not put in full 80 minute performances. I think South Africa have grown into the tournament favourites and will take this one with a little comfort.
