European Rugby Champions Cup 2018-2019 Round 4 Predictions

We are half way through the European Rugby Champions Cup and no team has a perfect record. Toulouse, Saracens and Racing 92 have 3 wins but all have dropped TBPs along the way.

Here is my video with my European Rugby Champions Cup Round 4 Predictions:

Gloucester Rugby v Exeter Chiefs – Gloucester Rugby by 3

This one I found very hard to pick. It doesn’t help that I’m an Exeter Chiefs supporter and so with picking you’re always trying not to be biased by that. Exeter are experiencing a mini slum having lost both to Harlequins in the Premiership and to Gloucester last weekend. It’s not in Exeter’s nature to give up on a tournament but that has to be in the back of their minds and Gloucester will have their tails up.

Ulster v Scarlets – Ulster by 3

With only 2 LBPs for Scarlets only Lyon are going worse in this competition. I think that they will turn their focus to purely the Pro 14 but they are a quality outfit and Ulster will still need to fight for the win, even at home.

Cardiff Blues v Saracens – Saracens by 10

Saracens have 3 wins and 2 TBPs so it’s away win all day. The only question is the margin. It was 26 points last weekend but Cardiff are at home so expect that to narrow some.

Glasgow Warriors v Lyon – Glasgow Warriors by 20

Lyon have the worst record in the competition and lost at home by 20 points last weekend. I’m going for a repeat this weekend but it could blow out as Glasgow are at home.

Toulouse v Wasps – Toulouse by 10

Toulouse have won all their games this season even if it’s been by 2, 1 and 8 points. Wasps are out of it now and only have pride to fight for. As Toulouse haven’t been blowing teams away I’ve gone for a comfortable but modest home win.

Castres v Munster – Castres by 3

Munster have yet to be beaten in this competition but do have a really poor away record this season. As with all French teams Castres won’t like losing at home and expect a spirited performance. I think that home crowd will help them get a narrow win.

Leinster v Bath – Leinster by 10

After all the fuss over flags last weekend Leinster came away with a 7 point win. I can only see the reigning champions get another win here and perhaps I should have gone for a bigger margin. Leinster beat Wasps by nearly 50 points earlier at home this season.

Leicester Tigers v Racing 92 – Racing 92 by 5

Leicester Tigers are in a bit of a mess at the moment with quite a few commentators wondering how low they can go. Hosting the big spending Parisians is not what you need under those circumstances. I expect Racing to continue their winning streak in this competition.

Montpellier v Toulon – Montpellier by 7

Both Montpellier and Toulon are having disappointing seasons. Not only do they sit 3rd and 4th in their Champions Cup pool but they are also down the Top 14 table. I was surprised by Toulon’s win last weekend but I think it will be reversed this coming weekend on the road.

Newcastle Falcons v Edinburgh – Newcastle Falcons by 7

Let’s be honest I had a shocker last weekend as I went with recent form over home form. Edinburgh did the business like they have been doing at home all season. Away from home though they are a different kettle of fish and Newcastle should gain revenge.
