Yes it’s time for the best annual tournament again! Tickets are like gold dust and the 6 Nations is ready to kickoff. We should not forget though that there is also the Women’s Six Nations and The Americas Rugby Championship taking place. I’ll give you my predictions for all 3 tournaments.
Here is my video with my 6 Naitions 2019 Round 1 Predictions:
6 Nations (Men’s)
France v Wales – Wales by 3
France are a team in decline and Wales are rightly ranked 3rd in the world. The last time France played they lost to Fiji at home so they will be looking to make amends for that. However Wales are a quality outfit even with the odd injury here and there. So I’m backing an away win but it will be tight as these clashes normally are.
I’m be bringing you post match reaction straight after the final whilst.
Scotland v Italy – Scotland by 25
Scotland are a team on the rise. We have seen with both Edinburgh and Glasgow making it to the knockout stages of the European Rugby Champions Cup. Scotland’s achilles heal is their away form but obviously that’s not a factor this weekend. Italy are someway behind Scotland in their development phase. O’Shea has improved their clubs sides but that hasn’t led to results in the national side yet.
Ireland v England – Ireland by 7
The big game of the weekend sees 2nd in the world hosting 4th in the world. There are so many subplots in this game. Ireland can go to number 1 in the world with a good run in this tournament. There’s the traditional rivalry and also the Rugby World Cup coming up later in the year.
Ireland have shown that they are a top quality outfit and that’s from their whole setup designed to make the national side succeed. England don’t have that luxury and so we see performances go up and down. They have the personal but haven’t been putting in the performances to suggest an upset.
6 Nations (Women’s)
Ireland Women v England Women – England Women by 7
These 2 sides met in November in London and the result was 37-15 to England. With England being one of the few professional sides in the world you have to back them here.
Scotland Women v Italy Women – Scotland Women by 5
These 2 sides have split the results over the last 2 years. I expect a close one yet again with home advantage being the deciding factor.
France Women v Wales Women – France Women by 20
France are one of the top teams in the world as we saw in November when they split the series 1 all against the Black Ferns. Expect a big crowd for this game and a comfortable French victory.
Americas Rugby Championship (ARC)
Chile v USA – USA by 30
The USA are the defending champions and have racked up over 50 points in their last 2 games against Chile. So maybe I’m a little on the low side going for 30.
Argentina XV v Brazil – Argentina XV by 30
The Argentines XV have beaten Brazil by 35 and 72 points in the last 2 outings. So the margin is anyones guess really but it will be a home win.
Uruguay v Canada – Uruguay by 7
This is the big game of the round. Uruguay won home and away in the Rugby World Cup Qualifiers last year. So Canada will be out for revenge but I think they will find it a tough ask away from home.
