It’s a rest week in the 6 Nations but don’t expect too many of the key players to be back. So we are still going to be testing the depth fo the squads. Having no players missing didn’t help the South African sides last week, could it this one?
Here is my video with my Pro14 Round 17 Predictions:
Leinster v Cheetahs – Leinster by 15
Leinster are the best club side in Europe if not the world, even when they are missing players this shouldn’t’ be a problem for them. The Cheetahs did have that good run of 4 wins but they still need to prove that they can travel well. A 22 point loss to a stuttering Scarlets didn’t help that cause in anyway.
Connacht Rugby v Ospreys – Connacht Rugby by 5
Connacht might have lost when these 2 sides met earlier in the season and have also been lacked consistency. At home though they are a handful. Add into that Ospreys are on a 3 game losing streak including a couple at home. Those games have all been lost by single scores so whilst I expect a home win I don’t expect a blowout.
Benetton Treviso v Edinburgh – Benetton Treviso by 3
This is a tough game to call. Benetton are going really well this season but do supply a lot of players to the Italian national side. Edinburgh still don’t travel well, their only away victory was down the road in Glasgow. Edinburgh also will be missing players so I’m backing the home side in this one.
Scarlets v Munster – Munster by 5
Scarlets got a moral boosting win last weekend over the Cheetahs. That was their second win since November last year. The other was against the Dragons. That’s a really poor return and so I’m backing Munster in this one. Sure they were poor away from home at the start of the season but they have won their last 3 on the road in the Pro14.
Zebre Rugby Club v Glasgow Warriors – Glasgow Warriors by 7
Zebre started the season OK but they haven’t won a game since October. Only 1 of those games has had a losing margin in single fingers as well. This is an away win for Glasgow and maybe I should have gone for a larger margin. International call ups could keep this closer than we expect.
Cardiff Blues v Kings – Cardiff Blues by 10
Cardiff need to keep up the pressure on Connacht for those playoff places. A game against the Kings should yield them the TBP win. Perhaps I have again gone in on the low side with the margin. The Kings are on their 4th game away from home and have suffered big losses to Munster and Leinster over the last couple of rounds. This will be a big test of character for them.
Dragons v Ulster – Ulster by 7
What to make of the Dragons? They lost by only a single point to Munster a couple of rounds ago but then lost by 50 points to Benetton. Either way they haven’t won this year and it’s hard to see when they will. Ulster are a side that had disappointed me many times before but that’s mainly in Europe. They wouldn’t do that again would they?
