As we are nearing the halfway point of the regular season (in games played at least) there is a top 5 forming. The Arrows are just slipping off the back of that group but they do have 8 home games on the trot to finish the season off. Unfortunately for the bottom 3 it’s just a matter of pride now really. Catchup on last weekend’s action with The Runner Sports round-up.
Here is my video with my MLR 2019 Round 9 Predictions:
Houston SaberCats v Utah Warriors – Utah Warriors by 3
8th hosts 7th and in the grand scheme of things this game already doesn’t really matter. For the players, management and fans these games still matter. I initially went with Houston but then realised that I was letting my heart rule my head. Both these sides have only beaten Austin so far this season. It’s the recent blowouts that Houston have been on the wrong end of that worry me though. Has the dressing room lost faith? I think this game could tell us a lot.
New Orleans Gold v Austin Elite – New Orleans Gold by 20
NOLA still sit pretty at the top of the table having played 1 game less than most of the chasing pack. This is when they need to be making the most of it though as this will be their 5th home game. The travel in the second half of the season could come to bite them. I think this weekend they will add another TBP win to the list to add to those points in the bank.
Austin are yet to win a game and it’s hard to see where a win is going to come from. Single figure losses have turned into double figure losses and they have also played 6 of their 8 home games already. Let’s hope the lads enjoy hotel meals and that drives them on in the second half of the season.
Rugby United New York v Glendale Raptors – Rugby United New York by 5
RUNY have been a revelation this season and they will have enjoyed a last minute win in their first home game last weekend. Only 1 loss so far and that was away to the Champions, is a great record. A lack of bonus points is the only thing that is holding them back but I don’t think they’ll be too worried about that.
Glendale have turned around their season after those 2 losses on the road in the opening rounds. I was tempted to go with the draw here as Glendale are the draw kings with 2 so far. However I really don’t like sitting on the fence and I’ve been impressed with RUNY. I’m going with the home side even though Glendale will be strengthened with their USA players back from the ARC.
