With 5 rounds to go we are getting to the pointy end of the season now. Exeter and Saracens are still out in front. There might be a bit of a gap between 4th and 5th but as 3rd play 5th this weekend that could close right up. So bar those top 2 there are questions to be answered all the way down the table.
Here is my video with my Gallagher Premiership Round 18 Predictions:
Sale Sharks v Harlequins – Sale Sharks by 5
Sale (6th) still have outside hopes of making the playoffs this year. If that’s to remain after the weekend beating Quins in 4this essential. Luckily for Sale they have a strong home record with only 2 losses. Also remember one of those was back in September so well out of the mind.
Quins positioning the table is mainly down to their run of 5 wins from the end of December to early March. If you look at it in detail though those were all against bottom half of the table teams. So I’m backing the home side to tighten up that playoff battle.
Bath v Bristol – Bath by 5
Bath should be looking up the table from 7th but 4 losses their last 6 games means they must be short of confidence. That’s the same number of losses in the other 11 games.
However Bristol still only have that 1 away win all season in the Premiership. It was their last away trip and this is just down the road but even so I have to go with the home side. It’s not with much confidence though.
Saracens v Newcastle Falcons – Saracens by 5
Quite simply it’s Saracens at home so back them. Sure they will be resting players for the European Rugby Champions Cup. Sure Falcons are fighting for their Premiership survival. But it’s Saracens and they haven’t lost at home all season.
Wasps v Worcester Warriors – Wasps by 3
How do you pick this one? Worcester have a poor record on the road with just 2 wins. However Wasps are on a run of 4 losses including to Falcons in their last home game. This is another one where I have little to no confidence in my pick but I’m defaulting to the home side. Surely Wasps have got to win one at some point.
Leicester Tigers v Exeter Chiefs – Exeter Chiefs by 7
Exeter did have the blip where they lost 3 away games on the trot. That though has been put to bed with them winning their last 2 away games. Tigers also are a mess and have not only be loosing but also by big margins. This looks like an away win to me.
Northampton Saints v Gloucester Rugby – Northampton Saints by 3
I’m not sure if this is a more heart than mind pick. I just like the story coming out of Saints and how they’ve turned it around with good rugby. However they are up against a good side this weekend that wasn’t involved in European action last weekend. Gloucester don’t have the best away record with 3 wins and a draw from 8 games but that extra rest might be the deciding factor.
