Pro14 2018-2019 Round 19 Predictions

We really are reaching the pointy end of the season. Leinster are already through to the semifinals and Glasgow have made it to at least the playoffs. There are though still plenty of questions to be answered over these last few rounds.

Here is my video with my Pro14 Round 19 Predictions:

Glasgow Warriors v Ulster – Glasgow Warriors by 5

Glasgow will be looking to push on and turn their playoff qualification into a semifinal qualification. That week of rest could be very hand come finals time. With both these sides getting knocked out of the Champions Cup last weekend this will be their full focus.

Both these sides are on good runs in the Pro14 with Glasgow with 5 wins on the bounce and Ulster with 4. However neither side have faced serious opposition in that time. In the end I have to go with Glasgow’s home record of only losing once all season and Ulsters dodgy away record of 4 from 9 really suggests a home win.

Munster v Cardiff Blues – Munster by 7

Munster are the team chasing Glasgow and even though they have scored just 1 less try they are 3 TBPs behind. That really shows that getting that 4th try in a game is so important. Cardiff are also fighting it out for the playoffs but you have to say it’s hard to see them being the first team to beat Munster at home this season.

Cheetahs v Ospreys – Cheetahs by 3

The Cheetahs are officially out of things and on current form you have to say that the Ospreys might as well be also. 1 win in the last 5 games for Ospreys and that over Dragons has really sealed their fate.

I’m going for a home win here as the Ospreys away form has been terrible. 1 win from 9 and that was against Zebre tells you all you need to know about their season really. The Cheetahs have actually won 4 out of their 8 home games which isn’t that bad for second to last in the group.

Zebre Rugby Club v Connacht Rugby – Connacht Rugby by 7

Connacht have not been great on the road this season with 3 wins from 8 games. 2 of those were in South Africa and the other against Ulster so not a long trip. However Zebre haven’t won a game since October last year in the Pro14. Sure all 3 of their wins have been at home but they really have the losing habit.

Scarlets v Edinburgh – Scarlets by 3

For 2 teams that can only win at home it’s amazing that they are both still in the fight. Scarlets only away win was against the Kings and Edinburghs was just down the road in Glasgow. So with those kind of records you have to go with the home side.

Fun little fact, both sides have only lost once at home and it’s been to the same team. Cardiff Blues!

Leinster v Benetton Treviso – Leinster by 7

Leinster can really take it easy in this competition over the final 3 rounds. They’ll need that as they have European Rugby Champions Cup to also consider still. However Benetton’s away record has been poor. Their away wins have come against Dragons, Kings and Zebre or the 3 bottom teams in the competition. Sure there’s been a draw against Ulster but I still can only see a home win.

Kings v Dragons – Kings by 3

This might actually not be battle for the wooden spoon as it looks like that might be going to Zebre. However it’s not far off and will probably decide who finishes last in Conference B. It’s funny seeing Dragon 1 point behind Kings despite having won twice as many games. Exciting try scoring can pick up bonus points and so we might even see a TBP home win here. Who knows?
