With the news that MLR and USA Rugby have signed a strategic agreement strengthening the league things are looking rosy going forwards. For now though we still have the important business of seeing who makes the finals series! Catchup on last weekend’s action with The Runner Sports round-up.
Here is my video with my MLR 2019 Round 13 Predictions:
San Diego Legion v Glendale Raptors – San Diego Legion by 5
The Legions win in New York over RUNY was a real statement. The only thing that’s holding them back in the table is their lack of Try Bonus Points (TBPs). Hosting Glendale isn’t the kind of game that’s going to help get that right but defence wins championships. With that defence they have the highest points difference so doing something right.
Glendale have righted the ship but that’s been on the back of 4 wins and a draw at home. Their away form is still really poor with only 1 win and a draw to go with the 3 losses. A resilient Legion defence and poor Raptors away record means I’m backing a home win.
Rugby United New York v Utah Warriors – RUNY by 10
RUNY will be looking for a reaction from their players. A loss at home to the Legion is only their second of the season but sees them outside the playoff spots. They do have a game in hand over all the teams above them but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush as they say. You might be surprised that the team with the equal fewest losses is outside the playoffs. Again it’s TBPs that’s holding them back so expect them to be chasing 4 tries this weekend.
It’s turned into a long old season for Utah. Things looked good with an opening game win and then a draw against Glendale in their third game. From then though it’s been 6 losses on the bounce and it’s hard to see things improving in New York.
Toronto Arrows v Houston SaberCats – Toronto Arrows by 10
Toronto’s game last weekend was cancelled due to the weather causing travel issues. Moving Toronto’s home games to the second half of the season can only do so much it appears. With 7 home games to come Toronto really need to be picking up the wins and preferably with a TBP.
The SaberCats can keep some games close but others really do get out of control. We can see that with only 1 losing bonus point so far this season and the worst points difference in the league. Toronto should know this is an opportunity and throw everything at it.
Seattle Seawolves v New Orleans Gold – Seattle Seawolves by 3
Second v First! This should be a cracking game. These 2 sides are also second and first in the points scored table. I have questioned NOLA all season and they keep coming up with the answers. However Seattle is the hardest place to go as we have ween with them losing only twice ever in MLR. With that in mind I’m going with the home side but not with a lot of confidence.
Note – Technically Glendale is the hardest place to go as they haven’t lost at home yet in MLR.
