European Rugby Champions Cup 2018-2019 Semi Final Predictions

There have been 23 Heineken and European Rugby Champions Cups so far. We have real European royalty in these semi finals, with 12 of those finals won between these four teams.

Either of these games would be deserving of the final so carve out time this weekend to make sure you see them. My alarm clock will be going off at 2am over here in New Zealand to make sure I don’t miss any of the action.

Here is my video with my European Rugby Champions Cup Semi Final Predictions:

Saracens v Munster – Saracens by 7

Saracens have clearly made this competition a priority this season. After winning it 2 years on the trot, missing out on the final last year really hurt this club. Whilst they have lost a couple of games in the Premiership they are comfortably on track for a home semi-final there. Here in the Champions Cup they have been perfect winning all their games by double figures.

Munster’s path to this stage hasn’t been as comfortable with a draw against Exeter and losing to Castres away. You could say that how you get here doesn’t matter. It’s being here that matters and there is more than a grain of truth to that. However I think they are going to come up against an immovable object when they face Saracens in Coventry.

Leinster v Toulouse – Leinster by 3

If we are talking about royalty in the semi-finals then we have the 2 kings of Europe going head to head here. Both sides have won 4 finals and are looking at taking the outright lead in most titles. Domestically Leinster have secured home advantage in the Pro14 playoffs already. Toulouse are going equally as well being 8 points clear in 1st place in the Top14. More importantly they are 15 points clear of 3rd place with 4 games to go in the regular season. Effectively they have home advantage all the way to the final too.

Yup 2 sides with history in this competition and no domestic distractions. This is a cracking matchup that I really can’t decide on. I don’t sit on the fence though so I’m going with Leinster as they have more recent experience at the pointy end of tournaments. The last time Toulouse were in the final was 2010 (they did win) where as Leinster have been there 3 times since then. Home advantage at Lansdowne Road will also help.
