Exeter and Saracens have booked themselves home semi-finals. Gloucester will be joining them in the playoffs. The remaining place in the playoffs and 2 European Rugby Champions Cup places are still up for grabs. At the other end Falcons are clinging on by their fingernails. However it would be there greatest escape to eclipse other great escapes if they did survive!
Here is my video with my Gallagher Premiership Round 21 Predictions:
Bristol v Sale Sharks – Bristol by 3
A very good first season back in the top flight sees Bristol avoid relegation with a few rounds to go. It’s been close though as the 4 wins in the last 6 games have all been by 4 or less points. I fully expect another close game this weekend as well. Sale are fighting it out to finish in the top half of the table. However there’s no hiding from the fact that their away form has been poor with only 2 wins.
Harlequins v Leicester Tigers – Harlequins by 3
This is a tough one to call! Quins have lost their last 5 games and Leicester have only won 1 in that time. So which side will be the less worse? I’m going for Quins as the have an ok home record and Leicester have been poor away from home with only 2 wins.
BTW those 2 Leicester away wins were important though. A local derby against Northampton and a relegation battle with Newcastle.
Gloucester Rugby v Newcastle Falcons – Gloucester Rugby by 3
A few weeks ago quite a few people were positive about Newcastles chances as they had both Leicester and Northampton at home. In the end losses in those 2 games have all but sent them down. 3 losses on the trot after 3 back to back wins has taken the wind from their sails. There’s nothing in this game for Gloucester except pride in front of their home supporters. I think that’s enough motivation for them.
Northampton Saints v Worcester Warriors – Northampton Saints by 7
Things weren’t looking good earlier in the season for Northampton. Their strength has been to not get into a run of losses. That might sound silly but early in the season they won just enough to not gain a losing habit. Then as the season has progressed Boyd has got them playing better and the results have improved. They haven’t gone on a winning streak but they are winning more than they are losing now.
It’s party time for Worcester. Survival has been achieved and these last 2 games don’t matter now. Enjoy it boys because another hard season is just round the corner.
Saracens v Exeter Chiefs – Saracens by 3
Oh boy an early taste of what most of us expect to be the final. What’s more important? Getting the physiological advantage or keeping tricks in your locker? Also Saracens need to ration their resources between the Premiership and Champions Cup final that’s coming up. Saracens have won all their home games this season so I’m going with them. However it could really come down to how they approach this “phoney” war.
Bath v Wasps – Bath by 5
8th hosts 7th i.e. 2 sides that still retain hopes of making it into the European Rugby Champions Cup for next season by finishing in the top 6. So this is a make or break weekend for these 2 sides. Both have only won 2 out of their last 7 games so aren’t carrying much form into this game. I’m going with the home side as they have only lost at home twice (along with 2 draws mind you) but it’s not with much confidence.
