Randwick v Northern Suburbs at Coogee Oval
Randwick enter this match on a high after a surprise Anzac Day victory over traditional rivals Eastern Suburbs, highlighted by the 20 unanswered points that they scored either side of halftime. The win puts the Galloping Greens just 1 win outside the top 6, a position they will hope to improve on as they face an undefeated Northern Suburbs outfit fresh off a come from behind win over Manly. The Shoremen weren’t at their best last week but showed their class by grinding out a tough victory. Coogee Oval is never an easy place for visiting teams to play but I’m tipping Norths to remain undefeated.

Western Sydney v Eastwood at Lidcombe Oval
Western Sydney currently sits last on the Shute Shield ladder, having lost all 4 of their matches convincingly apart from an encouraging opening round performance against Manly. Things certainly don’t get any easier for the Two Blues this week when they host Eastwood. The Woodies are coming off an impressive 6 point win over Sydney University in Mudgee. It was arguably Eastwood’s best performance of the season, combining clinical attack with resolute defence. I’m predicting Eastwood to be far too strong for the Two Blues.

Manly v Southern Districts at Manly Oval
Manly will be looking for an 80 minute performance this week after they squandered a 12-0 lead over competition leaders Northern Suburbs last week. The Marlins are currently sitting 5th on the ladder and will be looking to consolidate their position in the top 6 when they host 3rd place Southern Districts this week. The Rebels are flying high after 3 straight wins followed by the bye in round 4. This will be a cracker of a game in front of what is sure to be a large and vocal Manly Oval crowd. I’m predicting the Rebels to scrape home in a nail biter.

Gordon v Sydney University
Gordon has had a mixed start to their 2019 campaign with a close loss to Southern Districts, a strong win over the Western Sydney Two Blues and a disappointing loss to Warringah after leading 13-12 in the second half. The Highlanders will be looking to improve their discipline after conceding 3 yellow cards last week. Sydney University, the defending premiers, has also had an inconsistent start to the season with big wins over Warringah and Western Sydney and losses to Eastern Suburbs and Eastwood. The Students will have top 3 aspirations again in 2019 and will be looking to get back on track with a strong performance against Gordon. I’m tipping Uni to be too good for the Highlanders at Chatswood.

Eastern Suburbs v West Harbour at Woollahra Oval
Eastern Suburbs were one of the preseason favourites but with last week’s loss to Randwick, they have now lost 3 on the trot. This week’s game against West Harbour is a must win for the Beasties, who will be asking some tough questions at training this week. The Pirates are currently sitting in 6th place on the ladder, 3 places above Easts, after their win against Western Sydney at the new Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta last week. Although Wests will go into this week’s match plenty of confidence, I’m tipping Easts to win this one.
