Super Rugby 2019 Round 15 Predictions

Well just when things were looking like they had stabilised with a relatively predictable Round 13, we get the chaos of Round 14. The average on SuperBru was 1.89 picks right. Let’s hope that we all do better in this round!

Catchup with what happened in Round 14 with the DrivingMaul Round 14 Review.

Here is my video with my Super Rugby 2019 Round 15 Predictions:

VIDEO COMING

Before we get into the actual predictions, I have a series “DrivingMaul v The Bookie”. Check out how I did against the TAB last weekend.

Chiefs v Reds – Chiefs by 7

My confidence in knowing what’s going to happen in Super Rugby has been shaken right to its core after the last round. Neither of these 2 sides come into this round with any real form. We have 14th host 13th in the combined table.

Injuries continue to haunt the Chiefs with another lock out for the rest of the season. Where as the Reds are into their second year of rebuilding under Brad Thorn. At times it looks like he’s got them heading in the right direction only for them to stumble the following week. I’m going with home advantage in this one but as I say last weekend shows anything can happen.

I will be Live on YouTube straight after the final whistle with post match reaction.

Brumbies v Vodacom Bulls – Brumbies by 5

The Brumbies are actually showing some decent form as we head towards the playoffs. 4 wins in their last 5 games and they haven’t lost at home since the opening round. It’s all just a bit too good to be true I guess.

The Bulls won their first game outside of South Africa in forever last weekend. However as I say above the Brumbies are tracking well and perhaps more importantly there is the Bulls record. Since the 9th of March they have gone WLWLWLWLW that means a loss must be coming next. Yup I’m grasping at straws.

Sunwolves v Rebels – Rebels by 3

For the Sunwolves, last weekend’s result for the Rebels was exactly what they didn’t want. The Rebels will be looking at bouncing back knowing that their playoff hopes are on the line. Gone is the possibility of complacency that the Sunwolves could have fed off. However the Rebels form is shocking with only 1 wine in their last 5 games. Also they still haven’t won outside Australia. However with not much confidence I’m backing them to fix that.

Crusaders v Blues – Crusaders by 15

Crusaders games are supposed to be the bankers each week! 2 draws in their last 3 games has ruined that recently. They are back home and not only will have the travel to deal with but also off-field issue from 3 players on a late night out. Will that be enough to derail them against a Blues team that is putting in sporadic performances? I doubt it as the Blues don’t have any away victories at all this season.

I will be Live on YouTube straight after the final whistle with post match reaction.

Waratahs v Jaguares – Jaguares by 5

This will be a close game. The Tahs have only had 1 game all season decided by double figures and the Jaguares have only had 3. Maybe I’m being swayed too much by recent results but the Jaguares have won 5 out of their last 6 games including turning over the Canes at away. That was the first time that the Canes have lost to overseas opposition at home since 2015. There are a lot of people talking up the Jaguares and how they could top the Africa conference and host a quarter final in Argentina.

DHL Stormers v Highlanders – DHL Stormers by 3

This is a massive game for the Stormers. They might sit last in the Africa conference and 12th in the combined table but they are only 3 points behind the Highlanders. For the Highlanders it’s also a big game as they currently sit in 8th and the final wildcard position. With 4 teams behind them within 3 points and having played 1 less game it’s a very precarious position.

The Stormers have shown tenacity with that draw with the Crusaders last weekend and their last 4 games have been decided by a combined 8 points. This one could go right down to the final play of the game and is a coin flip. I’m backing the home side just.

Cell C Sharks v Emirates Lions – Cell C Sharks by 3

Another impossible game to call. This is 7th hosting 6th in the combined table. Another way of putting it is the most talented side in the Africa conference against the best coached side in the Africa conference. The Lions will be out for revenge after the Sharks blitzed them at home. There they never saw the ball and were well beaten. However the Lions showed last weekend against the Highlanders that they can play and if they get the ball will cause all sorts of problems. Again I’m going with the home side but with little confidence.
