Here we are at the pointy end of the season. Just 2 more weekends of games to go before we know who the Champions are. The 2 sides who’d be hosting this weekend have been known for sometime and it’s looked like Gloucester would be joining them for most of the season. That final place though was a real battle!
Here is my video with my Gallagher Premiership Semifinal Predictions:
Whilst we have known for a long time that Exeter would come first with Saracens in second, this has been a very competitive season. 3 teams finished on 56 points to try a get that final playoff spot. Also Sharks were only a point behind.
The top 4 teams are the ones that could score tries. That might sound silly but they are the 4 sides that cored over 70 tries. Gloucester and Saints conceded more tries than teams below them but it shows how attacking intent is starting to win out.
That’s what did Falcons as they were the only side to score less than 400 points. 4 teams allowed more points to be scored against them but that didn’t matter in the end.
Saracens v Gloucester Rugby – Saracens by 10
Saracens clearly targeted Europe this year where they were unbeaten. In contrast Saracens have lost 6 games in the Premiership. In Gloucester they are coming up against a side that few predicted pre-season would be here. However they rose quickly in people’s eyes as soon as we saw their performances.
However I think the difference between the top 2 and the rest in this tournament has been clear to see. Saracens & Exeter finished with points differences of 204 and 192. Gloucesters was next best at 72. I can only see a home win here.
Exeter Chiefs v Northampton Saints – Exeter Chiefs by 10
Yup I’m going for another home win here too. Whilst there have been plenty of questions in the main pack the top 2 teams have been clear for some time.
The turnaround at Saints has been impressive. They lost 6 out of their first 9 games and there were question marks about them looking down rather than up. However 2 wins over the festive period where a sign of things to come as 8 wins in their last 13 games proved enough to get into the playoffs. That’s a great achievement for this side and a good foundation to build on but I can’t see them going any further.
