We are down to the final regular season round of the competition! Only San Diego Legion are guaranteed a spot in the finals so there is a lot to still play for. You can catchup on all the Action from the weekend with The Runner Sports round-up.
Here is my video with my MLR 2019 Round 19 Predictions:
Houston SaberCats v Glendale Raptors – Glendale Raptors by 3
Raptors are now out of the playoff picture making this a bit of a redundant game. For the SaberCats it’s a tough old week as they have the Warriors after this on another short turn around. You have to expect the SaberCats to rest a couple of players for this game. They aren’t expected to win it and their game at Utah will decide who finishes 7th and 8th. For the Raptors it’s probably going to be too little too late.
Utah Warriors v Houston SaberCats – Houston SaberCats by 3
Off a short turnaround this is a tough old ask for the SaberCats. However they are tracking really well after winning their last 2 games. That means that they have won twice as many games as the Warriors but have been let down by a lack on bonus points. Utah’s ability to score points has meant they have racked up a respectable 8 bonus points this season. Even with the short turn arounds I’m going for the SaberCats as they are on a roll and have found that winning feeling.
Toronto Arrows v Rugby United New York – Toronto Arrows by 7
This has turned into a massive game. I wouldn’t have expected to see the 2 expansion teams 2nd and 3rd in the table at this stage of the season. RUNY have impressed us since their opening game of the season when they won away in San Diego. The Arrows on the other hand had a tougher start to the season but have really come good over the last few weeks. 6 home wins on the bounce has been really impressive. The loss of international players to the Canadian team during the Americas Rugby Championship hurt them. I think that the Canadian team will earn themselves a home semifinal by winning this game.
San Diego Legion v New Orleans Gold – San Diego Legion by 5
NOLA were the early pace setters with their free scoring meaning that they have picked up more Try Bonus Points (TBPs) than any other team. You could say that they have been unlucky as all the games they have lost have finished within 7 points meaning they have picked up Losing Bonus Points (LBPs) in all those games too. However for a team that was top of the standings for so long they only won 3 games by double figures. For whilst they score points they have also been letting them in.
The Legion are the only team that are guaranteed a playoff spot. They’ll still be pushing for at least a point to make sure they finish top of the pile and secure home advantage all the way to the final. With NOLA having lost 4 out of their last 5 games you have to say Legion should closeout the regular with a win and stand clear at the top pf the pile.
Seattle Seawolves v Austin Elite – Seattle Seawolves by 20
As this game kicks-off half an hour after the Legion v NOLA game they will learn during the game where everything stands. The Seawolves won’t want to leave it to that and as Elite haven’t won a game all season this should be a comfortable home victory. For all the talk of the Seattle Seawall defence they have been a more attacking team this season. They have scored more points than any other team and all the teams above them have allowed less points to be scored. So don’t let last year’s image of the team colour your view of the score in this one.
