SuperSport Rugby Challenge 2019 Round 5 Predictions

A big thank you again to Andre our SuperSport Rugby Challenge expert.

There’s always that one game and we narrowly missed the Grand Slam Point again this week as the Blue Bulls seriously rattled the Lion’s cages by beating them 62 – 24. The Sharks XV, WP, Cheetahs XV and Pumas all cemented their positions as real contenders.

Falcons v Blue Bulls

After last week’s dominant display against the Lions, it’s hard to look past a Blue Bulls victory in this game. The Falcons have been respectable this season and beat a gallant Griffons outfit last week. By playing at home it will be a boost but the Blue Bulls should have enough to see this one through.

BTW The Bulls haven’t won away from home yet

Andre’s Prediction: Blue Bulls by 15

Leopards vs Griquas

One guarantee from this game is that it’s going to be a high scoring one! The Leopards scored 81 away from home last week and Griquas narrowly lost to the Pumas. Griquas should have to too much quality and the frail Leopards defence will come back to haunt them again.

Andre’s Prediction: Griquas by 12

Boland vs Zimbabwe

Boland has been my surprise team this year and they should have little trouble in getting past the young Zimbabwe team. Playing in front of their passionate fans, they will be looking to put on a show for the locals. Zimbabwe will need to improve dramatically to avoid another heavy defeat.

DrivingMaul Prediction: Boland by 20

Cheetahs v Western Province

This will be a match to watch for any neutral and a spectacle it will be for sure! The Cheetah XV outfit have hit their straps in the last month and dominated every team before them. The WP team are winning but it almost seems like they just doing enough to win in recent games. The WP team will be tested for the first time and I’m going for a Cheetahs victory at home.

Got to agree with Andre that this is the match of the round.

Andre’s Prediction: Cheetahs by 4

Lions v Griffons

The Lions will be looking to bounce back after two straight losses, but they will find the going tough against a rejuvenated and confident Griffons team. It will be a test of character for both teams and I think the Lions will want to stay in contention with the group leaders. A loss this week, might just derail their campaign completely.

Andre’s Prediction: Lions by 9
DrivingMaul Prediction: Lions by 5

Pumas vs Welwitschias

The Pumas have beaten all their contenders in their group and I think they will rest a few players this week. The boys from the Namib will be low on confidence after a heavy home drubbing last week. I can’t see them winning this one either.

Andre’s Prediction: Pumas by 35
DrivingMaul Prediction: Pumas by 25

SWD Eagles v Border Bulldogs

In this game we have two struggling teams with both sporting a single victory against the same opponent – Zimbabwe. Not a lot to get excited about in this fixture and this might just be the tonic for some positive, running rugby. The Eagles are more settled and I’m going with them this week.

Andre’s Prediction: SWD Eagles by 12
DrivingMaul Prediction: SWD Eagles by 5

EP Elephants v Sharks

One way traffic in this game, barring some horrific interference from the rugby gods. EP have definitely improved since the Pro14 ended, but the Sharks are ever improving and should get through this tricky fixture.

Andre’s Prediction: Sharks by 19
DrivingMaul Prediction: Sharks by 3

Season Record:

Andre: 28 from 32
DrivingMaul: 27 from 32
