The Pacific Nations Cup 2019 Round 2 Predictions

The Pacific Nations Cup kicked off last weekend. Unfortunately the biggest story was the waterlogged pitch that Samoa and Tonga played on. It’s a shame that an opportunity like this to showcase the Tier 2 nations gets over shadowed in that way. Hopefully we get 3 games on decent surfaces this weekend.

USA v Samoa – USA by 10

The USA got a big win over Canada last weekend. Nearly reaching the half century in a very comfortable victory. I’m not sure how much we can take out of Samoa’s win over Tonga last weekend due to the conditions. I guess it shows heart but who knows how they are tracking? Still I think that the USA will have too much for Samoa on the first of a double header in Fiji.

Fiji v Canada – Fiji by 10

Fiji came crashing down to earth with a loss to Japan in the opening round. However they will face much easier opposition this weekend in the shape of Canada. Things aren’t well for theMaple Leaves at the moment and there is a bunch of work to fix things both off and on the pitch. I just can’t see them troubling Fiji in the kind of form they have been in recently.

Japan v Tonga – Japan by 15

Japan kicked off their season well. Jamie Joseph always said that this year was all about the Rugby World Cup. Another win in this competition looks to be coming their way. However as I said about Samoa it’s hard to know where Tonga are at after last weekend’s game. Even with that uncertainty they have been behind Fiji recently and Japan get the job done last weekend.
