Mitre 10 Cup 2019 Round 2 Predictions

Round 1 saw some great attacking intent in some really poor conditions and we can only hope that continues. This season I’ll getting to over 20 games and providing live coverage on Twitter as well a weekly Monday night Mitre 10 Cup show on YouTube.

Catchup with what happened in Round 1 with The Mitre 10 Cup Show Round 1.

Here is my video with my Mitre 10 Cup 2019 Round 2 Predictions:

Northland v Auckland – Auckland by 10

Northland got the result that they wanted last weekend but it wasn’t a great performance. Auckland will be a big step up from Southland and I think a step too far. Sure Auckland “only” got a draw against North Harbour but the squad had been suffering with sickness. I expect that they will be over that this coming round.

I will be at Toll Stadium for this game, follow me on Twitter for my live coverage.

North Harbour v Counties Manukau – North Harbour by 7

North Harbour will be happy to have come away from the Champions with 3 points. Sure they didn’t pick up the Battle of The Bridge trophy but it’s a solid start to their season. Counties on the other hand dominated Taranaki at the set piece but still came up short. North Harbour won’t be pushed around in the same way and should get the win.

I will be in Albany for this game, follow me on Twitter for my live coverage.

Hawke’s Bay v Wellington – Wellington by 7

This should be a good game and the more I think about it the less confident I am of my prediction. Last weekend Wellington got taken apart by Tasman but a lot of teams will experience that this season. Hawke’s Bay pack just dominated Manawatu. Now Wellington are much better than Manawatu but their weakness is that pack. Can Hawke’s Bay make that count?

Join us on Monday’s at 8pm for the Mitre 10 Cup show as we review the weekend’s action, cover the hot topics and look forward to the next round

Manawatu v Taranaki – Taranaki by 15

This should be another victory on the road for Taranaki. Manawatu are too light upfront for this competition and it’s going to be a long old season for them.

Otago v Southland – Otago by 5

Otago got pushed around by Bay of Plenty and really done over last weekend. Southland showed that they can counter attack and that’s going to be their best hope. Cling in there with desperate defence and catch Otago on the counter. The real question is will Otago let them do that?

Canterbury v Tasman – Tasman by 5

Canterbury were surprisingly beaten by an injured Waikato last weekend. Whilst Tasman made a statement that they are the team to beat. Going to Christchurch is never easy and Canterbury will want to show why they have won this competition 9 times in the last 11 years. Still I think the class of Tasman will shine through.

Bay of Plenty v Waikato – Waikato by 5

This should be a cracker, Bay of Plenty really showed that they have a decent side this year. However Waikato showed that they aren’t just looking for survival in the Premiership. I’m backing Waikato but I’m still concerned about their injury list and what toll that will take on them as the season progresses.

I will be in Rotorua for this game, follow me on Twitter for my live coverage.
