We got Ireland’s expected win over Italy but the other games last weekend all caused plenty of talking points. The building South Africa, England’s experimental side beating Wales to stop them going to number 1 and the Wallabies thumping the All Blacks! It was exhausting and the Rugby World Cup is still to come.
Talking of the Rugby World Cup, DrivingMaul supporters can watch my video listing the must watch pool games at the Rugby World Cup.
New Zealand v Australia – New Zealand by 10
There are few must win games for the All Blacks as they normally are winning but this is one of them. To lose the Bledisloe Cup for the first time since 2002 would be a hammer blow to the nation never mind the All Blacks. Previously when Australia have won the opening game a reaction was expected, this time there isn’t the same confidence in the air.
Even though the All Blacks have not lost at Eden Park since 1994 (a 23-20 loss to France) the public is worried. Records are there to be broken but I just can’t go against history on this one.
I will be Live on YouTube straight after the final whistle with post match reaction.
Wales v England – Wales by 7
Wales were expected to beat England last weekend once we all saw the sides that were picked. That didn’t happen though and in turn that kept Wales from claiming the number 1 world ranking. That could still happen over the next couple of weekends though.
Maybe as an Englishman I’m just pessimistic about my side but I think at home Wales will bounce back in this one. As we saw last weekend they Anscombe, injuries could be more important than the result however.
South Africa v Argentina – South Africa by 20
Argentina need to leave all their starters at home to rest up for the Rugby World Cup. This game really does not matter for them. Who knows what sides we will see put out there and that’s an issue for all these games. However South Africa have been getting the results who ever they put out and this will be another momentum building win.
Italy v Russia – Italy by 15
Italy got the loss we all expected against Ireland last weekend, this weekend against the 20th ranked side in the world they should get the win.
France v Scotland – France by 5
I find this one very difficult to pick. Scotland are on the up but struggle away from home. With the Rugby World Cup in Japan maybe they will be taking these games more seriously to get that away winning feeling? I don’t know but away results are hard for Scotland to come up with. France? Well who knows what the coaches are up to there.
