Now that the Shute Shield is out of the way the NRC can kickoff. Got to say that this is a massive handicap for the New South Wales sides. All the other sides will have had some sort of preseason but the Eagles and Rays will have just got together this week. The big question is, can the Fiji Drua go back to back???
NSW Country Eagles v Sydney Rays – NSW Country Eagles by 7
I’m going for country over city in this one. I’m expecting the Rays to have been more disrupted by the Shute Shield running until last weekend. Also in the 5 previous meetings between these 2 sides the Eagles have always come out on top.
Melbourne Rising v Canberra Vikings – Canberra Vikings by 3
The Vikings are normally challenging at the top end of the table and with little knowledge about these 2 that’s what I’m going with.
Brisbane City v Fiji Drua – Brisbane City by 3
This is a controversial call. I have gone with the home side as the Drua didn’t travel all that well last season especially early on. Also how much will they be weakened by the Rugby World Cup? Sure most of Fiji’s starts play overseas but there have been a couple of call-ups from the Drua I believe.

Force v Queensland Country – Force by 5
This won’t be exactly the same side that the Force rolled out for their Global Rapid Rugby games. Still I image that they have been together more and so should hit the ground running fully prepared. Queensland Country have been a decent side and I expect that they will go well but find this trip a step too far for them.
