Glasgow Warriors v Scarlets – Scarlets by 3
Glasgow travelled to South Africa and were beaten convincingly by the Cheetahs. The Scarlets on the other hand picked up a nice victory despite players being away on international duty. As it looks like Scarlets are coping batter with the absences I’m backing them to pick up an away win.
Leinster v Ospreys – Leinster by 10
Leinster are used to fighting on two fronts and so have a squad that can handle players being away. Ospreys on the other hand don’t and also last seasons turmoil didn’t help their recruitment and retention of players either.
Kings v Munster – Munster by 10
The Kings are again looking like being one of the weaker sides in the competition. I don’t think that the salary cap rules that the South African Union have brought in will help for this season. As for Munster well they kicked off with a good win and there’s no reason they shouldn’t continue that momentum.
Zebre Rugby Club v Dragons – Zebre Rugby Club by 3
Oh this one is hard to call. Two of the weaker sides in the competition and Zebre are probably more impacted by the Rugby World Cup than Dragons. However history tells us that the home side wins in this matchup. The only time that’s not happened in the last 10 games it was a draw.
Cardiff Blues v Edinburgh – Cardiff Blues by 5
A good start by Cardiff saw them pick up a win in South Africa. Edinburgh also picked up a win at home. That’s never been Edinburgh’s problem though, it’s when they go on the road that points are harder to find. Has Cockerill managed to change that culture yet? We will see but I’m not banking on it.
Cheetahs v Ulster – Cheetahs by 5
Cheetahs have to make the playoffs this season or their sponsor is pulling out. That pressure led to a good win over Glasgow last weekend but Glasgow are heavily impacted by missing players. Ulster showed last weekend that they are coping better. Still I’m backing the home side in this one and this really is a do or die season for the Cheetahs.
Connacht Rugby v Benetton Treviso – Connacht Rugby by 5
Another one that’s hard to pick. With all their players I’d probably go for Benetton. But they don’t have all their players and so the trip to the west of Ireland is going to be much tougher. Connacht haven’t started the season well but being back home should give them the boost they need.
