We have had a couple of rounds of the Pro14 and already we can see the impact of the Rugby World Cup. I’ve not seen it officially but I believe that all Welsh players at the Rugby World Cup will get 4-6 weeks off afterwards. I imagine that Scotland, Ireland and Italy will do something similar so the impact will be felt long after it’s all over.
Cheetahs v Munster – Cheetahs by 5
The Cheetahs have started in great form. A win by 34 points followed up by one by 37 points is impressive. This weekend though I think they will be facing a much tougher prospect. Munster have also won their opening 2 games is not quite in such emphatic fashion. This will be a really good guide to where the two teams are at and I’m just backing the home side.
Dragons v Connacht Rugby – Connacht Rugby by 3
There are a lot of games that are hard to call this week and this is one of them. Dragons have had an impressive win over Zebre and Connacht a similar one over Benetton. I need to see more before I have faith in the Dragons and so I’m going with the away side.
Leinster v Edinburgh – Leinster by 10
Edinburgh got a good win over Cardiff away from home but Leinster are a different prospect entirely. I expect Leninster to continue their winning streak with Edinburgh’s coming to an end.
Scarlets v Zebre Rugby Club – Scarlets by 30
Zebre lost by 24 to Dragons. Scarlets are better than Dragons. Big home win.
Kings v Ulster – Ulster by 10
The Kings haven’t lost any players to the Rugby World Cup so they should be at an advantage now. Also their opening 2 games were at home. None of that mattered though as they have lost those 2 games. I’m backing the visiting side to win again.
Glasgow Warriors v Cardiff Blues – Glasgow Warriors by 3
Oh this is a hard one to call. Sure Glasgow have lost their opening 2 games but Cardiff’s only win was over the lowly Kings. This is one that I have no idea how it’s going to pan out but Cardiff have struggled traveling in the past so I’m going with the home side.
Ospreys v Benetton Treviso – Benetton Treviso by 3
This is another one that’s really hard to call. Both these sides have lost their opening 2 games. Both are impacted by international call-ups. However Benetton weren’t disrupted by the now knowing if they’d exist this season like Ospreys were. So I’m going with the away side having had a better preparation over the off season.
