Gallagher Premiership 2019-2020 Round 5 Predictions

Since my last predictions Saracens have accepted their punishment for salary cap breaches. That means they now sit last in the table on -22 points. Tigers, Wasps and Quins will be looking over their shoulders wondering if they have enough of a head start to survive. This is just a quick return to Gallagher Premiership action as it’s back to Europe next week. That means we have to be thinking about who will be resting players in anticipation of that?

Bath v Saracens – Saracens by 7

Don’t expect any rested players here. Bath are already effectively out of Europe and Saracens have said they are prioritising the Premiership. Whilst Saracens might be last if they hadn’t had points deducted they’d be sat in third. So you have to think of them as a form team as far as picking goes and that’s why I’m going with the away side here.

Exeter Chiefs v Wasps – Exeter Chiefs by 10

This should be an easy home victory for Exeter. If they don’t come away with the TBP they will be disappointed. Wasps have had a poor start to the campaign and really have lost quality players in the off season. The names they have brought in make sense but they just aren’t delivering on the pitch yet. As they get used to playing with each other they should improve but will it be in time?

Northampton Saints v Leicester Tigers – Northampton Saints by 10

The is a great traditional derby. As you can see below, Tigers have had the better of it until recent times. Three wins from their last four meetings and a much better start to the season means it’s all in the home sides favour. The only question mark will be around resting players for Europe next weekend. Saints have a double header against Leinster coming up!

Worcester Warriors v Sale Sharks – Worcester Warriors by 3

I found this one really hard to pick. Both these sides have two wins to their names. However Worcester’s wins have been over Tigers and Quins or the two poorest performing sides so far this season. Sale on the other hand have picked up a win on the road which they have struggled with in the past. One swallow doesn’t make summer though and I still don’t trust Sale on the road to get the result.

Bristol v London Irish – Bristol by 15

This should be an easy home win for the table toppers. I would have gone for a bigger margin but I think Bristol might be resting players for Europe. They have a real chance of winning the Challenge Cup this season.

Irish have had a good start but again liike Worcester they’re wins are against two poorly performing sides (Tigers and Wasps). They still had to go out and get the win so credit is due but Bristol will be another couple of levels harder.

Harlequins v Gloucester Rugby – Gloucester Rugby by 5

I’ve not given Tigers or Wasps much hope this week so this could be an opportunity for Quins. Gloucester have lost two on the bounce in the Premiership including to Tigers! So you have to give the home side a chance. I just think with Europe gone for Gloucester they have too much talent for Quins in this one.

Record So Far

13 from 24 or 54% correct. Had a bit of a shocker last round, I only got 2 out of 6 right!
